The plastic handle melted on the first use. I emailed them and they did send me a new lid with a metal handle.
Nice customer service, but it seems like it should just come with that to begin with. Maybe they'll change the design in the future.
Works and seems well built otherwise.

I got this at its sale price because I had been interested only in the fuel-extinguishing can, hoping to get several uses out of Thaan charcoal blocks. I can report that the combustion ends quickly enough that there’s almost no additional ash produced in the can. I already had two fire-starting chimneys which, while not nearly as beefy and well-built as the Yak model, have already survived living outdoors in the Northeast for 15 years, so are arguably “good enough.” The Yak chimney is kind of a Rolex watch of starter chimneys: doesn’t keep time any better than a Timex, but my, it’s a handsome devil.

Does it job, and build and finish details are very good.

This whole experience with Yak is the nuts! I just cooked gyro and it was amazing! The heat and efficient use of charcoal is great! And speaking of efficient use, I can get Japanese charcoal lit fast in the Firestack. Then when I’m done I put the charcoal in the bucket and throw in a few light sprinkles of water to help douse the charcoal. Be careful with the steam. I typically get 3-4 burns per batch of charcoal because nothing takes very long to cook on the Yak. After research I bought the Yak grill because it is 100% stainless. No wooden or no stainless parts to weather or crack. Nuff said. Thank you to the efficiency of David and the Yak team. They run a great business.

This grill is well designed and easy to clean.
Great product. Love the logo too.

Very well constructed. I wish it were a little larger but that might be a non-issue now that I've ordered the riser to get the coals closer to the grill grate.

It works well. The coals went out. Unfortunately the plastic top handle melted.

It’s great! Love the Container insert!

Firestack duo:Does what it says on the tin
Yak grill: build quality seems robust enough. The size of the grill is great for dinner parties and good enough for yakitori dinner parties I.E 8/10 skewers at a time. I am hoping it will pass the test of time as i really like the form factor and build quality - this is a perfect grill for anyone wanting to start their yakitori journey (with the rods) at a small cost.
Cleaning the grill is easy enough.

Super durable. Love the fact that it comes with a separate canister to store charcoal for future use. The canister fits nicely into the charcoal chimney.

What a fantastic tool for my yakitori grilling, the fire started easily and I was able to safe a lot of expensive binchotan charcoal with the carry can. I am completely impressed with the quality of steel used to Maki both pieces.

Works as advertised

Plastic handle melted off after one use. Should start making them out of stainless steel like everything else. Great product idea. 8/10 execution

Works great but design could be better. I also wish there was more documentation on how to put out coals better. But overall a must have with this grill.

Works just like advertised and looks great, would be awesome if it fits in the carrying bag with the yak grill

100% satisfied with all products and the timeliness of receipt of two orders. I love everything!

This fire starter works great once 5hey replaced the yellow plastic handle on the storage canister and improved the locking lid mech on it.
In fact I am utterly impressed with this complete yak system!

I bought 3 bundles plus all accessories for Christmas gifts and everyone loves them. I did my research and these are the highest quality in the marketplace. The chimney and it’s ash can are very well made and the perfect size. Tip, I fill my ash can with water and dip the unspent charcoal quickly in the water and let it dry in the chimney. I’m getting 3 uses per briquette! If you are thinking of buying this, STOP IT RIGHT NOW! And just buy it RIGHT NOW! David the founder is a hands on entrepreneur and knows how to run a great company with great products. His reviews are the BEST I have EVER seen! GO FOR IT!

Everything I get from Yak is great but the chimney starter is the best! It’s perfectly sized to fit the Yak. It lights very quickly and is thick and sturdy. I’d buy it again. You should too!

I brought my DUO to the football field loaded with 7 pieces of Thaan. 30 mins to light the Thaan, 2 hours of burn time, 22 sausage and pepper sandwiches later and the Thaan fit nicely canister, set in the Yak, in the carry bag then in the back of the SUV. Time from blazing hot cooking to packed up was 5-10 mins, and although I had a canister full of hot Thaan it was never too hot to pack in the car for the ride home.
That was sweet.
There are a few things i’d love to see the great folks at Yak implement for a 2.0. A little taller and narrower to fit inside the yak (up or laying down) and then in the carry bag. It’s sits recessed but not “perfect fit portable.” The carry case also does not zip with both the grill and the Duo loaded.

Coincidentally I was already using my own home combination like this: a bigger (standard?) size chimney and a throwaway pot I would stack inside it that I would carry as a unit. But the i always wished for a smaller size chimney cuz sometimes I only wanted to heat up a small amount of coals and it felt awkward to be using a big chimney just for a few coals. And the last time I brought my make shift unit to a friend's house, it tipped over spilling my old coals and ash everywhere in my car. The YAK Firestack Duo solved EVERYTHING! Perfect size chimney and the pot and lid LOCKS into place! Absolute love this. Immediately threw my old setup away.

Really, really nice chimney starter. Got in on the pre-order as soon as it was released so I got it ASAP upon release. Perfect size for the YAK Grill, compact, color looks great, nice sturdy thick material. The most impressive part was the twist lock charcoal storage bucket portion in the center, it seriously works incredibly. I ordered some really expensive Japanese binchotan and this was my first time using it to grill, so I was eager to try the storage portion to try and preserve the charcoal for as long as possible. After I was done grilling, tapped the leftover charcoal on the sides of the Yak Grill to knock of any excess ashes and then I tossed them into the storage bucket and twisted the lid shut. Walked away for an hour, ate dinner, hung out, etc and then when I came back to clean up the grill and put everything away, the storage bucket was already cool to the touch, all of the charcoal had been extinguished perfectly and everything went better than I could have ever imagine, I've already re-used that charcoal at this time and it re-lit perfectly and burned just like new. Overall, incredible experience.

This little chimney is built how things should be built. I love this thing. Works like a dream.

Bought the Yak grill and later the Yak fire starter duo for my husband. He loves it and is now a huge fan of binchotan charcoal as it cooks at a much higher temp. So far he uses it 2-3 times a week during the summer and has grilled up Shishito peppers, shrimp, chicken, A5 Wagyu, veggies, fish, and much more. Everything has cooked quickly and evenly. He loves it so much we just bought one for my brother. It has been a huge gift win for difficult to shop for men in my life.

Great chimney, built solid unlike the thin galvanized ones at big box stores. Will last forever.

I was excited to get an early production Duo to play with. The first thing I noticed was how sturdy it was with really nice heavy-gauge steel and smooth yellow handles. It took out all the guess work of how much to charcoal to use and what to do with the hot coals after dinner. I love how the lid locks on bucket and then neatly nests inside the chimney to store it away. If you love your YAK grill you will definitely love the Firestack Duo too! Highly recommended.
