Every time you purchase from us we donate 1% of that sale to approved nonprofit organizations committed to protecting the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the world we play in. 1% For the Planet ensures that giving goes directly to highly vetted environmental nonprofit organizations to make the most impact possible.

With every purchase made, you are not only supporting a small business and donating 1%, but you are making a pledge that will help support and inspire others to inspire better products and a better planet.

Why Are We Doing This?

For us, 1% of sales or total revenue is actually a significant commitment. We don't have venture capital or outside investment but we believe making this pledge is an essential component of doing business the right way.

Everyone at YAK already makes their own personal choices to help mitigate their impact, but as a company, we should do something too. YAK grills require 60% less charcoal than traditional charcoal grills, which inherently cuts the carbon footprint due to fuel efficiencies, reduced transportation costs – resulting in less waste. We already use post consumer recycled cardboard in our packaging, and refrain completely from using any styrofoam and minimize the use of plastics.

But in the end, committing to 1% takes us a step further and literally puts our money where our mission lies.

About 1% For The Planet

1% For the Planet brings people and companies together to increase smart environmental giving. In 2002, Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, created 1% for the Planet and started a global movement.

Since their inception, they have certified more than $225 million in support to approved environmental nonprofits. At the end of the financial year they review our revenue and certify our giving to approved nonprofits.

1% for the Planet is a global movement inspiring businesses and individuals to support environmental solutions through annual membership and everyday actions. 1% for the Planet consists of more than 1,200 member businesses, numerous individuals, and thousands of nonprofit partners in more than 40 countries.
