Long lasting and high heat!
Joe B.
Used this charcoal with Yak grill to do yakiniku dinner at our campsite. Really no smoke and long burn gave way to relaxed family dinner around the picnic table. So good we did it three nights in a row.
Vincent P.
Coals are ok. I’d opt for higher quality coals, but love that these are easy and fit in the grill easily.
Alexey C.
Love the charcoal blocks!

Great than but not as flavorful
Richard P.
Excellent charcoal that burns hot and long. Lives up to its reputation. Getting it started is the hard part; we used a MAP gas torch and it still took a while. Found out the restaurant method is to put the charcoal on the gas range, stacked, to get it going. I will try that with my gas grill when I want to actually cook on the hibachi.

Charcoal gives off limited ash and fits seamlessly into the yak!
Andrew K.
Had a wonderful time grilling. I was the star of the show! Just what I wanted, simple, clean, not over produced. Thank you Yak Grills!

Yak grills are simply perfect
Eric A.
Fits the yak grill. Hot, no smoke, last long, but it’s a pain to light. Because it’s so expensive I feel like I have to use my grill until its all bent up. Don’t recommended if you have a quick cooks. Use briquettes instead and save the money.
Lucia O.
I don't think my words can do justice for how good this charcoal is.
I highly recommend it.
quality charcoal and great flavor to your food guaranteed.
Easy to use (if you know about grilling and handling charcoal, if not, watch some youtube videos)
i have turned the charcoals off with water and then re used them a couple of days later. it works wonderful even after that.
delivery was on time
decent price
im coming back next i need more
Dean R.
Love the charcoal blocks. Easy to ignite and the burn is very hot, with little ash. Reusing is a breeze too. I store my hot coals in a small black cast iron pot with a tight lid.

i love this product, only thing is that they say free shipping on their site but when i place an order i get an email a few hrs later from the company saying they need to add shipping cost. if its not free shipping just say it. dont try and fool your customers.

Very hot and long lasting!
These PokPok Thaan charcoal are much better quality than your every day briquettes charcoal. They last much longer, burn much hotter, and they dont leave a bad charcoal smell to your food. Best of all, they fit perfectly in the Yak Grills yakitori grill! I don't think I would ever go back to briquettes charcoals again after using these. I highly recommend these!

It’s Binchotan!
Exactly what you would expect from this dope type of charcoal.
And YAK Grills delivered on time and at a decent price.
I’ll order again!
Food & Fun
Awesome grill!
This is a perfect table top grill! We've used it this summer on a number of occasions to entertain guests and it makes for a great evening of food and fun.
Highly recommended!

Solid Charcoal
One layer in the yak grill foes the job… for hours and hours! I was really surprised that it didn’t pop at all and that such little charcoal was actually really hot! Highly recommend!!

It Burns
These charcoals burn for a LONG time. Even after our little jamboree, they were still going and it had already been 4 hours! A little bit more expensive than traditional charcoals but I think it's worth it.

Wow!
The charcoal was amazing made the food taste great without the worry of ash all over it! It burned for almost 3 hours and I couldn't be more happy with the purchase! Thank you!! I will purchase it again!

Love this stuff-
I love this charcoal! It burns clean, has very little ash or spark and gets the job done. Perfect with the Yak grill!
Frank Nakano
clean burn, low smoke
As advertised. Clean burn, low smoke and together with YAK grill make backyard feel like a yakitori restaurant.
Peter Irving
Slow even burn for great controlled grilling
Light it up and let it settle. The heat is even and lasts. I set a hot cook side in my Yak grill and a warm side for staging my cook. The bricks make it easy to manipulate where I want my heat.
Georgia Kenney
Clean hot fuel
Perfect for small hibachi grills. Heats fast, stays hot forever and burns clean.

Thaan Charcoal
Excellent charcoal - high heat and low smoke. One thing to keep in mind it is harder to light. I would recommend the Weber chimney lighter
Ricardo Lopez
Best charcoal I've used
It takes a while to get burning, but once it's on you can grill for a long time! Great flavor to meats, no artificial smells or flavors added to your grilled items

Great and Long Lasting charcoal
The coals last foreverrrr. I did a 3 hour grill session and was still able to save it for later use.
Christopher Nisbet
Mind blowing reusable charcoal
I was kind of leery about this stuff because some people said things like it takes to long to lite. But I bought it anyway and very glad I did. Grilled four times with the same charcoal. If it takes to long to lite, then start sooner..;-)
Ian
Great charcoal
It's a bit tricky to start at first. But all you need is a chimney starter and you are good to go!
Max
Pricy but worth it
This thing is amazing. As advertised, it burns hot and long. Much more than ordinary lump coal.
Kim Dunham
Great Coals!
This coals are awesome! They work so well with the Yak Grill.

Perfect charcoal for the grill
Took me a few skewers to realize the heat that these guys put off. Once i got ot right these were so easy to work with
gary adcock
Great resource!
The Thaan charcoal, is a low cost, reliable heat source for my Yak Grill. Offering users a stable high heat fuel source that is more affordable than traditional Japanese charcoals
Brian Schuhmacher
Haven't had a chance to try the grill yet. It's -21 C here today. It looks good. I wouldn't buy the charcoal again as there is a customs charge that makes it too expensive. I have found a local supplier with a decent price. Waiting for spring now.

start early
So I finally put together my Yak grill and did a bunch of Yakatori chicken skewers and they were terrific. My lessons learned, start the charcoal REALLY early, like two hours before you start cooking early. The Thaan charcoal does burn super hot and for along time, but takes quite a while to get to a nice, gray coal consistency. Also, unless you're really cooking a LOT of food, probably 4 chunks of charcoal will be enough. Gives you one really hot half of the grill and a cooler half if things flare up. When it gets a lot warmer in the spring, I'm going to fire this thing up around 1pm and by 3, start cooking. and will be enjoying it over a couple of hours. Also - get some marshmallows...

Hot, hot , hot
Once heated, stayed wonderfully hot, without smoking.
Aaron Gonzales
Burns hot
Plan on an hour to start the charcoal. Saw video on YouTube so I was able to plan ahead for the first time I used them. YouTube video shows him double stacking which brings the heat closer to the meat. Fanning also gets the temperature higher.
R Zimmer
Solid Grill
My Grill arrived in Late December and due to cold snap here in the Northeast, I haven't had a chance to put the grill to use yet. But I can say that I was impressed with the heft and build quality. I expect this grill will perform and last.
Gennady Fayer
Long Burning Charcoal
Only used the charcoal once so far, but definitely a new experience vs regular charcoal. Lighting them took longer than expected, but they burned for a long time. Still have some ash but not too bad. Was able to cook all the food and should be able to reuse the charcoal even from what I read.
Richard Mann
Very good charcoal
As other have written, perfect charcoal for this grilling style and grill BUT not easy to light. I would suggest using the internet for advice. Plan on an hour to get it ready to grill. Don't try it the first time for company or a hungry family.
After a try or two you well be fine but it still takes time. Once lit and ready, it's great. High, consistent heat, low smoke, and produces good flavor.
When I run out I will buy more and not use regular charcoal for this style of grilling.
Valencia F. Walker
Great product
I used the Than charcoal the first time I used the Yak grill. While once lit, it burned hot and long, however, it was quite the challenge to get he coal lit. I did some research and figured out to get it going, and anyone who uses the coal should be sure to build in that ramp up time before the grilling begins. Overall, great products.
Scott Haley
Nice Bricks
Great charcoal for the Yak, fits perfectly. Pic shows an alternate route (for some) to a quick start. Precise blow or fan as needed to keep it hot. Easy peasy.
Karla Malpartida
Thaan Charcoal Hard Start
It’s great once you are able to light it up. The chimney starter took forever so don’t have a party and just decide to light up during the party. It took a good hour or so to get it going. The heat was even and lasted quite awhile.
Levi K Schlosser
It’s still good!
With how long and cumbersome it is to light these it’s a big deterrent for me. They take awhile to get hot. But then they’re fine! Off the get go they are too big to stack in the yak grill but once you have a few leftovers you can start stacking them.
Taste was good, and results I got were good but it’s definitely got a learning curve sooo I’m givin it a 4.
Peter
Long burning and hot
Binchotan style charcoal. Very long burning and can get really hot. It is a must for any hibachi style grill, like the Yak Grill, it gives a great smoky flavor to the food. Great product although I find it takes very long to get the charcoal going, almost an hour to get it red hot. So remember to start the grill early.
Ruben Palma
Must have!
If you’re gonna get a Yak Grill, you definitely should get this charcoal. For the price, ease of ordering & if you can use any discounts or free shipping... buying at least 2 boxes Thaan charcoal is a no brainer. It’s not quite the same with lump hardwood or regular charcoal. Trust. Easier & less expensive than most binchitan and other brands.

Yak Grill initial review
Overall, the grill worked well. However, I suggest you prepare a more detailed instruction of best uses for those of us who may not be experienced grillers. For example, descriptions of how much charcoal to use and perhaps their placement in the burn chamber. Using 2 small firestarters and 4 cylindrical pieces of charcoal, I got a good burn for the grill.
Marcus Myles
Thaan charcoal
Burns hot and long however I needed to use a blowtorch to get it lit. Chimney starter didn’t work
